«b»Mrs. Edward Wiese Struck By Taxicab Injuries Are Fatal«/b»
North Mankato Woman Killed Enroute To Christmas Services
      Coroner Announces No Inquest Planned
Driver of Cab Not Detained; Tragedy Held As Wholly Accidental

Struck by a taxi cab while on her way to early morning Christmas services at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Mrs. Edward Wiese, 65, 815 Nicollet avenue, was killed instantly at 5:50 a.m Christmas day.
Mrs. Wiese was crossing Belgrade avenue at Cross street when she was hit by a Coy taxi driven by Peter Sanger, 411 Record street. She was carried about 50 feet on the bumper before the car was brought to a halt.
Death resulted from injuries to the head, legs and abdomen, and to shock, Dr. J. W. Daniels, Nicollet county coroner said. Mrs. Wiese sustained compound fractures of the left leg and arm and a scalp would. She was hurt internally.
The woman was walking north and the cab was going east when the tragedy occurred. According to C. Besmehn, 404 Nicollet avenue, Mrs. Wiese had walked about 12 feet into the street.
Although he did not see the crash he was attracted by the noise of the impact and turned in time to see the woman being carried in front of the cab. He assisted in carrying her to a nearby house.

An inquest will not be held, Dr. Daniels said.
"We found no reason to hold Mr. Sanger," the coroner declared. "He has the reputation of being among the most careful cab drivers in Mankato."
The body was taken to the Nicols funeral home. It first was identified as being a Mrs. Ewert but Mrs. Julius Gustafson later provided information which led to its positive identification. Mrs. Wiese carried no papers by which she could be identified.
