- Suicide Named In Damage Suit
Papers Reveal $27,500 Auto Death Suits May Have Caused Lewis Peters' Death
Legal action started against the late Lewis Peters, 44-year-old Johnstown man who ended his own life on Oct. 30, was filed in the circuit court here Wednesday in the death of Iver Ystebo of Janesville last July 9. Peters was the driver of one of the cars involved in a collision east of Janesville, in which Mrs. Peters and Ystebo, driver of the other car, lost their lives.
Two suits filed against Peters claim a total of $27,500 in the death of Ystebo and for injuries to his widow in the same accident. The court summons were served on Peters a few days before he ended his life by hanging. He had according to information at that time, been despondent since the fatal injuries suffered by his wife and by Ystebo.
The suits involve a claim of $20,000 for the death of Ystebo, filed by M. J. Mortensen, special administrator of his estate. A personal injury case fo Mrs. Ystebo, who was hurt in the accident, asks another $7500. The complaints in the cases charge Peters with being negligent in seven different allegations. No automobile liability insurance company is involved as a defendant.
The carsh which resulted in two death directly and the subsequent suicide happened on July 7 on county trunk F, the Roger avenue or middle road, two miles west and a mile north of Emerald Grove. Mrs. Peters was killed outright.
Ystebo, who was 32 at the time, died two days later from injuries. His widow and two-year-old daughter survive.
