Roy Eggers
Roy Eggers of Bingham Lake collapsed at his home Nov. 21 while changing car tires and died before help could reach him. He was 80 years old.
Funeral services were held in Windom Saturday at the Hanson-Witt Funeral Chapel. Rev. Dale Wordelman officiated. Music was provided by organist Mrs. Homer Basinger and vocalist Elaine Hunter.
Services were also held Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, S.D. with Rev. Henry Kor officiating.
Casket bearers were Terry and Tom Eggers, Jim, Jeff and Joe Hagemeyer and Kevin Ludens.
Interment followed at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Tea, S.D.
Roy Peter Eggers was born at Traer, Iowa on Feb. 27, 1899. He was the son of HEnry and Catherine Eggers. He grew up near Traser and attended rural schools there.
He moved to South Dakota where he began working at age 21.
Oct 17, 1924 he married Cora Buus at Sioux Falls, S.D. They became the parents of two sons and two daughters.
Eggers worked at the Morrell Meat Packing Plant in Sioux Falls for a number of years and later he and his wife built and operated a nursing home at Lennox, S.D. His wife passed away in 1965.
On March 6, 1973, he married Helen Davids at the United Methodist Church in Windom. Following their marriage they lived at Bingham Lake, where Helen had been making their home.
Roy was a member of the Windom United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens. He was an avid gardenera and also enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, son son, Keith, three brothers and two sisters.
Those who survive include: his wife, Helen of Bingham Lake; one son, Claxon Eggers of Berthoud, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorma Catle of Mr. Clemens, Mich. and Mrs. Albert (Patty Ann) Hagemeyer of Tea, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-children, Darwin Davids of Portland, Ore. and Mrs. Donna Lundeen of Minneapolis; on e brother, Arnold and one sister, Augusta.
