      Edward Radtke
      Edward Radtke, 83, of Mt. Lake, died October 24, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Village in Mt. Lake.

      Visitation will be at Bjerum Funeral Home in Mt. Lake on Thursday, from 4:30-7 p.m. and Friday from 7:30-8 a.m.

      Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.

      Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, at Lakeview Gospel Church in Mt. Lake with Rev. Richard Korns, Rev. Robert Radtke and Rev. Merwin Dick officiating.

      Interment will be at the Delft Cemetery in Delft.

      Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bjerum Funeral Home in Mt. Lake.

      Military Honors will be provided by the Mt. Lake American Legion Post # 389.

      Edward Gerhard Radtke, the son of Carl William and Kathryn (Penner) Radtke was born April 15, 1921, in Lodi, Calif.
      He grew up with his family and received his education in the Mt. Lake and Butterfield areas.

      Ed served his country in the U.S. Army from June 1942 through September 1945, including several battles in Africa and Europe. Ed was held as a prisoner of war from November 20, 1944 to September 27, 1945. He earned six battle stars, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Citation and Infantryman?s Combat Badge.

      On October 18, 1945, Ed married Gertie Lucille Menken at the Christian Reformed Church near Mt. Lake. They farmed in the Butterfield and Delft areas until 1962, when he purchased a welding shop in Mt. Lake with George Janzen.
      Later in his career he became the sole owner of the shop.

      Ed enjoyed fishing, working with stained glass, traveling, and Christmas lights and displays. He was also an avid bowler in Comfrey, St. James, Windom and Mt. Lake.

      He was very patriotic and flew his country?s flag with respect. Ed had a very strong faith and was active on many committees at Immanuel Mennonite Church in Delft. He was also a member of the Mt. Lake American Legion Post. Ed loved children and will be remembered for his quick wit.

      Survivors include his wife, Gertie Radtke of Mt. Lake; two sons, DeLyle (Pam) Radtke, and LeRoy (Diane) Radtke all of Mt. Lake; two daughters, Linda Coe of Pleasanton, Calif., and Judith (Jerry) Friesen of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; two brothers, Garry (Twyla) Radtke of Bellevue, Texas and Robert (Ione) Radtke of
