Joyce Elaine Still, age 65 of Leon, Iowa, daughter of Henry Glossen and Georgia May (Forsythe) Still, was born May 7, 1948 in Leon and died September 2, 2013 at Westview Acres in Leon.
Joyce grew up in Davis City, Iowa. She graduated from Leon High School in 1966. She attended college in Cedar Falls, later graduating as a Registered Nurse from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Joyce was an excellent nurse and enjoyed her profession. Through the years she worked at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, and New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston for a time. Joyce worked at Des Moines General Hospital in Critical Care for the last 20 years and retired due to health issues in 2001.
Following retirement, Joyce returned to Leon to make her home. She lived at Parkview and later at Westview. Due to complications of diabetes, Joyce received a kidney transplant in 2004.
Her nieces and nephews were dearly loved, and Joyce was proud of them. She also enjoyed going places with her sister Linda and Kevin. Joyce liked needle work, eating out, and being with friends and family. She was a member of Saint Brendan's Catholic Church in Leon.
Preceding Joyce in death were her parents, Glossen and Georgia Still; brother-in-law Lester Fairchild; and several aunts and uncles.
Surviving are her sisters and brothers: Dorothy Fairchild of Westview Acres in Leon, Junior Rumley and wife Connie of Monmouth, Oregon, Thomas Still and wife Lois of Cameron, Missouri, Jerry Still of Leon, Donnie Still of Leon, and Linda Buckingham and husband Kevin of Leon; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
