Elmus V. Barnes, 81, of Themalito, died Sunday night at Oroville Medical Arts Center.
He had retired in 1947 after 24 years as a maintenace supervisor on the Western Canal for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. He also worked for many years in the gold dredging operation near Oroville.
He was born in Pennington in Sutter County, and was a member of the Oroville Lodge, F&AM, Royal Arch Masons and Knights Templar of Oroville.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lola Maude Barnes of Thermalito; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Cobeen of Gridley and Mrs. Harold E. Williams of Bonanza, Ore.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Live Oak Community Presbyterian Church under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Cremation followed at Sierra View Memorial Park.
Memorials to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children in San Francisco have been suggested.
