    • Dennis William Bell was born on December 10th, 1946 to Estelle Kroning Bell and Victor Joseph Bell, Sr. in Chicago, IL. He is survived by his older brother Victor (Buddy), and younger sister Judith (Judy). He was raised with his siblings on the south side of Chicago. He attended Louis Pasteur grade school and Gage Park High School in Chicago. Dennis attended Augustana College at Rock Island, IL where he met Marjorie Elin Malm better known as Marji. Dennis earned a bachelor's degree in geology, but after college he worked in management systems and eventually found himself working as a corporate collector. In the 1990's, he partnered with a friend to run a collection agency, First Central Collection Agency. He finished his career as a collector with Brady Corp in Milwaukee. After retirement, Dennis worked part time as a building supervisor for the Brown Deer Recreation Program until his hospitalization in late October.

Dennis and Marji married in 1970 and lived in the Chicago area until they moved to Milwaukee in 1979. They have three children: Rebecca, Jeremiah (JJ), and James. As a family, they enjoyed traveling, camping, playing games, pets, and having fun together. As their children aged, Dennis became a second father to many of his children's friends. They looked to him as a role model. Dennis and Marji opened their home to many of them.

Their family grew to include son-in-law Bill Boppre and daughter-in-law Jessica Furlong-Bell. Dennis was a proud grandfather to Harper Bell and Caleb, Abby, and William Boppre.

In his free time, Dennis enjoyed various home improvement projects both at his house and at his children's houses. He worked with J.J. as business partner for 10 years owning and operating residential real estate, and for the last year worked on opening a sober house in one of them.

Dennis enjoyed singing in the St. John's Church choir, helping with special projects at church, and spending time with his family and grandkids. He was also a beer connoisseur, always enjoying a new brew.
Dennis was strong in his faith and his belief in Eternal Life. He was a caring person, often more concerned about those around him than himself and a witness to his faith in his daily life. He also had a great sense of humor, never failing to try to make someone laugh.

After a short battle with lung disease, Dennis entered eternal life November 29th, 2014 while at his home in Glendale, with his wife by his side.

Dennis was a caring, giving person, a smart man, and taught us the value of faith, service to others, giving our time, and loving all those around us.

Visitation will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 7877 N. Port Washington Rd., Glendale, WI 53217 on Friday, December 5th from 3:30 - 6:45 PM. Funeral service will begin at 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park on Saturday, December 6th at 10:00 AM.

Instead of a gift flowers that many send with the loss of a loved one, we have chosen to suggest a donation to one of 3 organizations, chosen by his children. Dennis understood the importance of each organization and gave his support. Please consider honoring Dennis in this way.

Becca would like to support education. Marji and Dennis felt it was important to raise their children in a Christian environment. They sent them to St. John's Lutheran grade school in Glendale to start their education. Their choice to educate them in this environment, helped them learn about Jesus and how to live their lives, and has helped shape them into the adults they are today. They are a reflection of what was important to Dennis and Marji for their children to learn. Becca and Bill have also sent their three children to St. John's to follow in the footsteps of starting Christian education at an early age. As a private school, St. Johns always benefits from donations to improve the education and opportunities for the children at the school. Becca and Bill's organization of choice is St. John's Lutheran Grade School in Glendale. For more information on the school and church, please visit Donations can only be made via check to "St. John's Lutheran School" with a notation of "Dennis Bell" in the memo line, and can either be mailed to the school itself or to the Bell house. We would ask the school to utilize funds in the way they feel most appropriate.

James and his wife, Jessica, have been blessed with a beautiful daughter, Harper Grace through adoption. Dad was able to form a special bond with Harper, as he was one of her caretakers, driving to their house weekly to watch her while her parents worked. Dad was able to enjoy this special time with Harper until this past summer, when he had just generally not started to feel well. Dad cherished this special time with his little gal. The adoption service they used, Bethany Christian, is a non-profit organization, mostly supported with grants. More information on Bethany can be found here on their website James and Jessica would like to support Bethany with donations to enable them to continue to help children find their forever families. To donate to Bethany, please visit There is an option at the bottom of this page to give in memory/honor of someone. Please indicate "Dennis Bell" here.

J.J. and Dad have worked as business partners for the past 10 years owning and operating residential real estate. About 6 years ago, they had discussed the idea of opening a sober house. To learn more about what a "sober house" is you can read about it online at Last year around this time, the opportunity they were waiting for had presented itself. Over this last year, J.J. and Dad have remodeled one of their properties with the intention of having this dream come to a reality. A few months ago they partnered together to form Second Chances Sober Living, LLC. With the direction of J.J.'s collective life experiences and Social Work background, and Dads' support and encouragement, Second Chances Sober Living, LLC is close to opening its doors. Second Chances Sober Living, LLC will be a drug and alcohol free living environment for men in recovery. This sober house promotes recovery for those transitioning from residential treatment back into society by requiring residents to become an active participant in their recovery from addiction by working a 12-step program, getting a job, and submitting to random drug and alcohol screening amongst other things. Upon graduation from this 6 month program, the goal is to have equipped these men to be acclimated back to becoming productive citizens that are sober, employed, and have learned the skills necessary to maintain an independent addiction free life. Den has put in a lot of time and work on the property with J.J. to get it ready to open. A donation to this organization would be utilized to help with start-up costs of the business itself, printed information, office supplies, website set up and other operational costs that support the 24hr on-site staff. J.J. has chosen to ask for funding to help get him up and running quicker, so that he can be of service to those struggling with and wanting to recover from drug and alcohol addiction. You can donate to Second Chances Sober Living, LLC at

We want to sincerely thank all of our family and friends who have supported us during this very unexpected, difficult time in our lives. We are amazed at the outpouring of prayers, kind words, hugs, and support in many other ways. Thank you all so much from the bottom of our hearts.
