- Sentinel Correspondent
Mrs. Elsie Delle Parcell, 78, of southwest of Edina, died about 8 o'clock Saturday night, Oct. 2, 1976, en route to a hospital in Kirksville. She was the Mount Carmel correspondent of The Edina Sentinel, and had spent most of her life in Knox county. She was well-known and active in many organizations of the county. She was a charter member of the board of directors of the Knox County Nursing Home and was still active in that capacity.
Eastern Star services were Monday night at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina and funeral services were at 2 o'clock yesterday, Tuesday, afternoon there. The Rev. Luke Turnbough officiated and entombment was in the Linville Mausoleum here.
Mrs. Parcell is survived by two sons, Roy B. Parcell of near Rutledge and William K. Parcell of Kansas City, a daughter, Stella B., Mrs. Arthur Douglass, Jr., of southwest of Edina, three grandchildren, Deborah Ann, Mrs. William R. Sandknop, and Wynn and Byron Douglass, three great-grandchildren, Derek and Sarah Elizabeth Sandknop and Joshua Douglass, a sister, Laura Annette, Mrs. Alvin Florea, of Hurdland and a brother, Howard McConnell Nicol, of Knox City, and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Parcell was born Dec. 27, 1897, in Knox County, a daughter of James William and Sarah Alice McKinney Nicol. She was married Feb. 11, 1917, at Edina to Claude John Parcell and he preceded her in death Aug. 30, 1964. She was a member of the Knox City Christian Church and attended Mt. Carmel Church in her home vicinity.
Besides having been a correspondent for The Sentinel 18 years and her faithfulness in church work and serving on the Knox County Nursing Home Board, she was also vice-chairman of the Central Republican Committee of Knox County, president of the Federated Republican committee, a member of Matilda Chapter No. 411 Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member of the Mt. Carmel Extension Club, and a past president of the Knox County Historical Society, which she helped organize. She was also an ardent worker in the Red Cross Bloodmobile program.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ralph Nicol.
