    • Roodhouse Man Dies From Injuries

      Charles Deck Passes Away at Passavant Hospital After Being Crushed by Train at Roodhouse -- Inquest Will be Held Today -- Burial at Roodhouse.

      Charles Deck, of Roodhouse, died last evening at 6:40 o'clock at Passavant hospital as a result of injuries received late yesterday afternoon when he was crushed between two cars in the railway yards at Roodhouse.

      Mr. Beck and another by the name of Williams were at work in the yards putting screen doors on a caboose. Mr. Beck was standing on the ground at the end of the caboose and Williams was standing on the platform, neither one saw the signal of a switch engine whick backed into the caboose catching Mr. Beck between the couplings, and crushing his spine and pelvis.

      Dr. Davis was called and gave the injured man what relief was possible. He was placed on a wheat train, which was given the right of way, and rushed to Jacksonville, arriving at Passavant hospital fifty minutes after the accident occurred. The injured man was conscious up to this time but at 6:30 o'clock collapsed and died at 6:40. The body was removed to the Reynold mortuary where it was prepared for burial.

      Funeral arrangements have not yet been made but the body will be taken to Roodhouse today.

      Mr. Deck was born in 1853 and had been a resident of Roodhouse for the past thirty-five yeras. He was a carpenter by trade and has been employed for a long time as a repairman in the Chicago & Alton freight yards.

      He leaves to survive him, his widow, one son, Russell, and two daughters, Mrs. Edith French, and Mrs. R. Taylor, all of Roodhouse.

      The inquest will be held this morning.
