    • Painful Accident
Alvin Cowden Maimed by Exploding Cartridges Saturday.

Alvin, the fifteen year old son of A. A. Cowden, celebrated the signgin fo the statehood proclamation Saturday, by exploding dynamite caps, such as are used in carnival canes. All went well for a while, but when he laid a handful of the caps on a rock and threw the piece of iron upon them, the explosion threw the iron back at the boy with unerring aim and sufficient force to split one of his ears wide open and cut a bad gash in the side of his head. Dr. Koons patched the boy up in good shape, but he will wear his head in a sling for some time.
