Horrible Accident
Clarence Cowden, the six-year-old son of constable A. A. Cowden was dangerously hurt Tuesday morning by a runaway horse in the street near his home. A lady was driving the horse and had stopped to hitch it to a post, when the dog, belonging to the rig, jumped into the buggy upsetting a tin bucket, frightening the horse, knocking the lady down and running away. The little fellow did his best to get out of the way but the horse followed in his steps overtaking him and knocking him down, the shaft striking just below the left eye and the buggy passing over his head. Mr. Cowden reports that the little fellow is doing reasonably well considering his numerous bruises which may at any time prove fatal.
The lad is just six years old today.
Mrs. Cowden as well as the lady who was driving the horse, were prostrated at the sight.

Clarence H. Cowden
Clarence H. Cowden, 78, of Stover, Mo., died Saturday at the home. He was born in El Reno, Okla., and lived in the Kansas City area for 55 years. He was a retired clerk for the Jackson County welfare office. He was a member of the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church and a former member of the St. James Lutheran Church. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Frieda Cowden of the home; a son, Harry Cowden, 3419 N. Bellefontaine; two daughters, Mrs. Louise York, Aledo, Tex., and Mrs. Marian Durham, 1 N.E. 71st; a brother, Earl Cowden, Ordway, Colo.; a sister, Mrs. Ila Meek, Warsaw, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be a 1:30 p.m. Monday at the McGille Antioch Chapel; burial Mount Moriah Terrace Park North. Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight at the chapel.
