Opel R. Cowden, 58, of ?23 West Clark, died in a local hospital early Friday morning after a short illness.
He was employed as a telegraph operator for the Union Pacific since 1936, in Pocatello, coming here from Kansas City, Mo.
He was born February 4, 1898, in El Reno, Okla., the son of Ira and Della Cowden. He attended schools in Oklahoma, later moving to Kansas City, where he started working for the Rock Island railroad. For a number of years he worked out of the city, in Bancroft, Sun Valley, American Falls and McCammon.
He was a member of the Methodist church and the Order of Railway Telegraphers 36. He served overseas in World War I, with the Army.
Survivors are his widow, Ester Scheutz Cowden, two daughters, Mrs. Robert Long of Pocatello 250 Park, and Mrs. LaMarr Muir of Monterey, Cal.; two grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters: Earl of Ordway, Cal.; Al and Clarence of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. W. E. Meek of Kansas City, and Mrs. Harry Moller of Ludington, Mich.
Funeral services will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Downard chapel with the Rev. Harry L. Starbuck of the First Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Mountainview cemetery.
