      Obituary

Tommie Randal Craft (AKA Ranny, Bubba, Buckshot, Dolly, Dad, Uncle, Grandpa) was born November l9, l929 Winnsboro, South Carolina and left us August 18, 2014 in Thousand Oaks, California.

Tommie left Orangeburg, SC and joined the Air Force at age 17. He had been a champion Golden Gloves boxer beforehand and continued boxing while he was in the service. He claimed they called him "Killer Craft." Much of his time in the service was spent at Edwards Air Force base in the California desert during the time when the X-1 was setting air speed records. Tommie recreated himself in the service, and when he left in 1952 he had become a skilled draftsman and developed a lifelong love of West Coast jazz and chipped beef on toast.

When his stint was up, he moved to southern California, lost his southern accent and met Nancy Miller. They were married in 1955 and ultimately made their home in Thousand Oaks. Tommie was employed in the aerospace industry for many years and worked at Litton Industries and Hughes Aircraft. During that time he went to school part time, finally obtaining a degree in business after 17 years. He began teaching drafting part time at Moorpark College in 1977 and continued teaching there for 35 years. Nancy succumbed to cancer in 1992.

After a time Tommie was lucky enough to meet and fall in love with Jean Evans and when they married, the two of them began a series of travel adventures that lasted for over 20 years. Tommie's personal charm and generous spirit allowed him to make and keep friends from all over the globe. If he couldn't make you laugh, then you did not truly know him. Jean and Tom were able to live lives that others can only dream of. Tommie was a generous, caring, funny guy who truly loved life. Early on, he was able to glimpse life's possibilities and he wasted no time seizing on them. He was the father that so many wished they had - a dear and decent human being who left trusting us to be good to one another.

Tommie is survived by his wife Jean and his children: Elizabeth (Chris) Granillo of Arlington, WA; Theresa (Jerry) Kocis of Moorpark, CA; Thomas (Dina) Craft of Tiburon, CA and James (Becky) Craft of Moorpark, CA as well as his sisters Bertha Mae Davenport of Battleboro, NC and Abbie Gale Caywood of Greenwood, SC.

He will always be the proud grandfather to Evan Craft, Richard and Anthony Rini, and Chloe Craft. Tommie will be remembered fondly by his cherished nieces and nephews in California, Missouri and the Carolinas.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation's Children's Special Program.
