Bessie R. McKeown
Longtime West Allis homemaker Bessie R. McKeown (nee Newton), 97, died Dec. 24, 1997, in Brookfield. Mrs. MeKeown was born in Ashland. She lived in West Allis for about 33 years according to her son Mike. She belonged to Mary Queen of Heaven parish and was a member of the Christian Mothers Society at the church.
Mike recalled sharing the observation with his mother that if she would live to be 100, she would see three different centuries. A woman whose family was her focus throughout hew life, she would have been 98 on Dec. 27. Her husband, William J. died nine years ago. Her son, William H., died a year ago.
In addition to Mike (Theresa) of New Berlin, she is survived by two other sons, Patrick (Claire) of Milwaukee and Gerald (Mary Braunschwieg) of Pewaukee; a daughter , Joan (William) Wendelberger of Erin; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor of Pewaukee; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nedra Cress of Philips; a brother-in-law, Chester Jelinski of Milwaukee; and a sister-in-law, Marge Newton of Ontonagon, Mich.
The Rev. James Flynt, a friend of the family celebrated Mass Dec. 27 at Mary Queen of Heaven Church. Mrs. McKeown's granddaughter, Shannon McKeown of West Allis, sang at the Mass. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery. Krause Funeral Home handled arrangements.
