«b»Zitzke - «/b»Mrs. Esther G. Zitzke, 71, 2028 Price St., died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24 in Swedish-American Hospital, after a six-month illness. Born Dec. 8, 1897 in Oshkosh, Wis., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Olsen. Lived most of her life in Rockford, coming here from Oshkosh. Married to Louis A. Zitzke in Joliet June 30, 1926. He died in April,1968. Employed as a public school teacher for 40 years. Her last assignment was at Lincoln Park from where she retired four years ago. Member of National Retired Teachers Association. Graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1915. She attended the University of Illinois, and after attending evening classes, was graduated from Rockford College in 1958. Survivors include: one son, Donald L. Baltimore, Md.; five grandsons; one siser, Mrs. Alice Gantz, Rockford; six brothers, Oscar H. Olsen, Walter L., Vernon J., all of Rockford; Alfred M., Mariamar, Fla.; George E., Brunswick Ohio, and Frank J., Portland, Oreg.; four aunts; several nieces and nephews. One brother and five sisters predeceased her, and one daughter, Linda Zawlock, died in Jan. 1968.
Services at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 in Long-Klontz Funeral Home, 428 Park Ave. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may contribute to a memorial established at Rockford Lutheran High School.
